Course objectives
The aim of the course is the theoretical and practical introduction to problems of translation of non-artistic informative texts predominantly from Russian into Czech, partially then also form Czech into Russian. During the lectures the learner will in overview get acquainted with the main theoretical problems of Russian-Czech equivalence at graphic, lexical and syntax levels and with basic translation transformations and translating methods that are necessary for translation from the foreign language to mother tongue and vice versa. At seminars that follows on from the basic linguistic preparation and from the material discussed in lectures, the students will practice in using translational transformation with the help of specially oriented translation exercises and appropriately translated selected short non-artistic texts and will learn to apply the knowledge from the field of the Russian-Czech equivalence when translating. The aim of the course then is to form a skill of general content and linguistic analysis of non-artistic texts, to understand their specifics and to translate them adequately from a source language (foreign) into a target language (mother tongue) and vice versa.
