Course objectives
The aim of the course is 1) to learn laboratory, analytical methods of isotope archaeology and their principles. 2) the realization of a thematic scientific project.
Learning outcomes
The objective is to gain proficiency in laboratory techniques and to develop an understanding of the methods employed. Furthermore, the aim is to obtain a dataset for evaluation and interpretation in an archaeological context.
Syllabus
  • 1. Theoretical lectures - Isotopes and radiation (Příhoda) - Archaeology of light element isotopes (Klontza) - Strontium analysis (external teacher: Erban Kochergina) - Basic literature (Schmidtová, Smíšek, Vyskočilová) 2. Working with  historical osteological material and sampling (Smíšek - Schmidtová) 3. Extraction of collagen and carbonate, creation of an analyzable sample (Vyskočilová - Schmidtová) 5. Excursion in analytical laboratories (Erban Kočergina) 6. Preliminary processing of the obtained results (all teachers + external teacher: Coccoza) 7. Workshop: evaluation of results (all teachers, all external teacher)
