- Course objectives
- In this course, Dutch literature in the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Enlightenment and Romanticism is explored. We work with capita selecta: we discuss a number of canonical texts in their social and cultural-historical context. The students not only become acquainted with a number of important authors, titles and movements, they also learn to analyze and contextualize texts.
- Learning outcomes
- - Students get acquainted with literary developments in the Low Countries in the Middle Ages, Renaissance, Enlightenment and Romanticism.
- They can place literary tendencies and genres in a historical perspective.
- They can identify and situate canonized authors and titles that were covered during classes.
