Course objectives
The course offers a comprehensive survey of Catharism, a medieval Christian “heretical” movement that appeared mainly in Italy and South-Western France between the 12th and the 14th century and was finally eradicated by the Inquisition. The course offers not only a chronological and geographical survey, but also an analysis of rituals, ways of living of the Cathar “Perfecti”, and of the institutions that Cathar groups are presumed to have created (bishops, etc.), based on primary material in Latin and old Occitan.

Assessment methods (in Czech)
1) Písemně odevzdaná seminární práce (9-18 tisíc znaků včetně mezer a poznámek pod čarou = 5-10 normovaných stran) s průběžným poznámkovým aparátem a seznamem použité literatury. Práce se odevzdává elektronicky do odevzdávárny v ISu nejpozději v den předposlední vyučovací hodiny (tj. v týdnu před zápočtovým týdnem) do 23:59. Může být vrácena k přepracování. 2) Kvantitativně a kvalitativně přiměřená účast. 3) Úspěšné absolvování společné opakovací rozpravy (v zápočtovém týdnu, případně další termín ve zkouškovém období).
