- Course objectives
- The subject of the seminar will be the analysis of Karel Kryls work. We will mainly concentrate on the authors songs (i.e. texts from such albums as: Bratříčku, Rakovina, Plaváček, Monology) and his poems (i.e.Zbraně pro Erato).
At the end of this course students get view of Karel Kryls work;
they will be able to analyse Kryls lyrics from the perspective of literary theory;
they will be able to integrate Kryls work in the context of songs and poetry;
they will get the survey of basic topics and philosophical background of Kryls work and to integrate work in social-cultural context. - Syllabus
- We will deal with frequent topics in Kryls work, such as homeland, history and war. We will analyse Kryls attitude to human, his opinions in relation human as individual to society (personalism, Christianity). We will also concentrace on authors understanding to belief and religion and also to his attitude to arts and artists role. We will examine Karel Kryl himself as an importatnt individual in history of Czech culture (reception of his work, cause mythical Kryl – also artistic myths, schemes of mythologisation). The course will end up with the view of Kryls impact on other artists.
