Course objectives
Cross-Cultural Psychology aims to explore relationships between cultural variables and human behaviour. We will look at the recent attempts by cross-cultural psychologists to devise theories that reflect the cultural, social and developmental, perspectives on behaviour. Problematics of streotypes and coexistence of different ethnics will also be addressed as a part of the course.
Syllabus
  • 1. Basic definitions and application of cross-cultural psychology. What is culture.
  • 2. Cognitive functions and intelligence. Explaning group differences in test scores: Intelligence and intelligent behavior.
  • 3. Integration and aculturation. Bias and stereotypes.
  • 4. Cross-cultural differences in values. Identity: ethnic and national identity and intergroup conflict.
  • 5. Human development and socialization. Norms, customs and child care.
  • 6. School environment and multicultural society.
