Course objectives
The goal of this subject to concieve a detailed characteristics of Danilo Kiš’s (1935 – 1989) writings, who is one of the most influential writers in serbian postwar prose. In 2009, we will commemorate the 20th anniversary of his death. In the lectures students will be informed in detail with his life and selected problems of his writings, with an emphasis on experimental and universally ethical dimensions of this texts as well. Beside the perception of D. Kiš in serbian kontext, will be some attention called to the international relations of his texts with a special regard to french and central-european contexts. In seminars will be offered a space to students to discus any problems, which will be outlined during the lectures. Students will enhance they knowledges by an effort on empathic reading. t the end of the course, the student will be able to discribe in detail a work of Danilo Kis.

  • 1.D.Kiš’s biography and the question of autobiography some of his texts. 2.Text-experiment, looping for new narative strategie and an effort on original authors deposition. 3.Poetry works. 4.Short-stories works. Themes and composition. 5.Novelistic works. Themes and composition. 6.Essays. Style and theme. (about world literature, generally about literature and art, Balkan and central-european relations) 7.Kišs polemics and polemics about him (J.L Borges, B. Schulz, D. M. Jeremić, G. Konrad, N. Vasović and others) 8.Kišs nostalgia. Balkan or central-european author? 9.Intertextuality and intratextuality, documentarism and lyrical subjectivism, past and present, irony and grotesqueness. 10.An analysis of book Garden, ash. 11.An analysis of book Hourglass. 12.Poetry of short.story collection A tomb for Boris Davidovich. 13.Poetry of short-story collection Encyclopedia of the dead.

Assessment methods
Teaching will take place every week in the form of lectures and seminars. Prerequisite for oral colloquium is an active approach in   seminar discussions.   In the case of passive participation, the student must write a text and then defend it to the colloquium..
