Course objectives
An overview of the history of Slovak literature and literary scholarship in the second half of the 20th century and at the beginning of the 21st century. The course contains information about the period, the main literary epochs, trends, schools and authors, with an analysis of genres and specific works and also leads toward a knowledge of written forms of expression within the given issues. Main aims of the course are: - to understand development of the Slovak literature of that period;
- to understand the most prominent representatives of the Slovak literature after the World War II;
- to become familiar with an essential amount of scientific literature and its methods;
- to work with the secondary literature creatively;
- to apply acquired knowledge and skills on the creation of own scientific texts.

  • 2. Concenpts of periodization, research on the Slovak literature of the second half of the 20th century and on contemporary tendencies in literature
  • 3. Role of the press, magazines, publishing houses and institutions in the literary process from 1945 to 1989 4. Basic facts, literary trends, schools and authors
  • 5. Specifics of literature and social development after 1945
  • 6. Development and specifics of the genres
  • 7. Literary scholarship after 1945

Lectures are combined with seminars. Active participation and semester paper are required. Assessment: oral exam.
