Course objectives
Students will get an overview oh historical milestones in the development of Christianity since its emergence up to now; they will become familiar with the major figures in the history of Christianity; they will become familiar with some important concepts in the history of Christianity. they will learn to interpret selected texts in this field.

  • The emergence of Christianity: Paul of Tarsus.
  • Patristics: Augustinus Aurelius.
  • Christianity in the Middle Ages: Francis of Assisi.
  • World Reformation: Martin Luther.
  • Catholic reform: Ignatius of Loyola.
  • Catholic mystique: Teresa of Avila.
  • Catholic Church in the 19th century: John Henry Newman.
  • Catholic Church in the 19th century: Jan XXIII.
  • Protestant Theology in the 20th century: D. Bonhoeffer.
  • Catholic theology in the 20th century: Jacques Maritain.
