Basic knowledge of writing Chinese characters and modern standard Chinese pronunciation.

Course objectives
Main objectives of the course:
At the end of this course, the students should be able to:
- be familiar with the rules of writing Chinese characters
- be familiar with relevant grammar
- be familiar with relevant vocabulary
- apply the acquired knowledge in reading elementary texts and translate the texts
- create structural conversions on the basis of the relevant grammar

  • (0) Introduction to the course;
  • (1) Writing characters, pronunciation, basic characteristics of classical Chinese;
  • (2) Basic sentences construction;
  • (3) Verbless noun predication;
  • (4) Verbal copulas;
  • (5) Verbal predicates;
  • (6) Verbal predicates - transitive verbs;
  • (7) Transitive verbs - active and passive;
  • (8) Transitive verbs with two objects I;
  • (9) Transitive verbs with two objects II;
  • (10) Verbs you and wu;
  • (11) Interrogatives;
  • (12) Shrnutí a opakování;

Teaching methods
Contents of the semester:
grammar explanation, translation of sentences, exercises, homeworks
The course employs electronic study materials (exemplary sentences, short texts, grammar explanations for each lecture during the semester) created specially for the course.
Assessment methods
Requirements for the credit:
(a) active participation in seminars;
(b) written test (min. 60 p./max. 100 p.); content: translation, gramar tasks, writing characters, structure conversions
