Course objectives (in Czech)
The sources for the Sumerian language date basically to the third millennium. The course will treat the language and the logographic writing system by reading simple inscriptions (12x2 hours teaching sessions plus home work; Volk 1992, Edzard 2003, Wiggermann 2010a). During the teaching sessions the political and religious background of the inscriptions will be discussed (Postgate 1992, Van De Mieroop 2004, Wiggermann 2010b).
