Course objectives
Aim of the course will be mainly practical acquaintance with the various manifestations of ways of architectural thinking and acting in the early modern period ( 16th-18th centuries). The students will work with the analysis of the project, with construction plans and with basic craft practices. They will learn about the information systems dealing with these problems (see the project Wissensgeschichte der Architektur - Epistemic History of Architecture (Bibliotheca Hertziana, Roma). Similarly, we focus on issues: How were buildings planned? Which knowledge about materials and construction issues and what kind of logistical skills were necessary for their realization? And what written and pictorial media were used to transfer such knowledge to the building process?
