Course objectives
It is a reading seminar. The aim of the seminar is to open the issue of vision and perception of space in theatre in several perspectives (politics, technologies etc.) The selected papers (or chapters) are not primarily focused on theatre. They are for example works by W. J. T. Mitchell, M. Foucault and J. Ranciere, 6 in total. Students will submit their written reading responses (2 pages) prior to the class. The discussion in class will be based on the responses and will focus on how the topics involved could be applied in theatre studies. At the end of the course, students should be able to interpret the texts and topics discussed in the context of theatre studies. Some of the texts are only available in English.
