Course objectives
Course of practical French language.
Main objectives can be summarized as follows:
Student should be able to understand any text from French newspaper and short records from French radio. Grammar and thematic analysis of French texts.
Syllabus
  • GRAMMATICAL PART: excercises concerning the following issues
  • 1. Gender and number of nouns and adjectives.
  • 2. Expressing quality.
  • 3. Expressing future.
  • 4. Passive voice.
  • 5. Expressing will, feeling and doubt.
  • 6. Demonstrative pronouns.
  • 7. Possesive pronouns; concord of the past participle.
  • 8. Consecution of times.
  • 9. Expressing condition.
  • 10. Creating relative clauses.
  • 11. Dual; pronominal adverbs.
  • 12. Expressing condition.
  • 13. Infinitive; indirect question.
  • 14. Present participle; "gérondif".
  • 15. Perfect participle.
  • LEXICAL PART: Excercises concerning word creation (derivation, composition), substitution (replacing a lexical unit by synonym or periphrasis) and translation from Czech to French and vice versa.
  • WORKING WITH TEXTS: Excersises on reproduction and synthesis (see Study Materials).
  • READING: Excercises on pronunciation.

Teaching methods
Active participation in the seminar (80%). Papers on the texts analyzed during the semestr (handed out 8 days after the class the latest).
To be admitted to the examination students are obliged to present a book according to their own choice (fiction is recommended). Students should be able to read and translate a passage from the book and replace a given lexical unit by synonym or periphrasis).
Assessment methods
EXAM:
a) written part: grammatical text, excercise on the lexical transformation, translation;
b) oral part: synthesis of a text selected from the textbook "Francouzština pro pokročilé“ (see the recommended literature) or from the texts analyzed during the semester (see the Study Materials to FJIA006);
c) to explain given vocabulary.
