Course objectives
The main aim of the course is to clarify the importance of Christianity and Christian churches in modern European history (19th and 20th centuries) and analyse the concepts and problems of the relationship of the church and modern society.
Syllabus
  • Secularisation of the European society
  • Changes of the role of the church in the society, churches and the political order
  • Social issue, religion and working class
  • Churches and the big ideologies of 19th century (liberalism, socialism and nationalism)
  • Totalitarism and Christianity
  • Internal development od the churches, reforms, ecumenism
  • Transformations of the Christian doctrine
