Course objectives
In the seminar the student will learn how to:
  • work with archival materials, get oriented in them;
  • read old German script (Schwabacher, Kurent);
  • apply their knowledge of old German script to the reading of archival materials;
  • look up archival materials independently;
  • understand better the logic of theatre directors' correspondence with the authorities in the 18th centuries;
  • process and transcribe theatre directors' petitions and requests;
  • understand the practice of early modern professional theatre.
