Course objectives
At the end of the course a student should be able to: understand key topics in the philosophy of logic; to explain the most discussed features of Frege's, Russell's, Traski's and Gödel's work; understand seystem of philosophical/non-classical logics (esp. modal, epistemic, many-valued/fuzzy, intuitionistic logics) orientate oneself in the selected issues of the contemporary philosophy of mathematics;

  • Frege's Begriffschrift and other writings
  • Russell's Principles of Mathematics and Principia Mathematica
  • Tarski's theory of truth, entailment and model theory
  • Gödel's discovery and its reception
  • issues in the foundations of set theory
  • selected other problems discussed in the 20th century (Benaceraff etc.)
  • nominalism vs. realism and other big controversies
