Course objectives
To enlarge the knowledge of classical Chinese literature, acquired in KSCA023.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, student will be acquainted with the relevant secondary literature;
they will be able to identify and summarize important features of the main genres of classical Chinese literature;
they will be able to analyze in detail selected primary texts
Syllabus
  • (1) The Encounter with the West, May Fourth Movement, Lu Xun. Readings: see above;
  • (2) The Inspiration in Folktale. Mo Yan´s Nobel Prize Speech
  • (3) Novels. Li Yu 1611-80.
  • (4) Kunqu / chuanqi: Tang Xianzu - Mudan ting, Hong Sheng - Changsheng dian, KongShangren - Taohua shan.
  • (5) Reading poems in original.
  • (6) Tao Qian.
  • (7) Bianwen.
  • (8) Wenxin diaolong and other critical essays.
