Course objectives
The aim of the course is to provide students with the knowledge of selected aspects of everyday life in ancient Rome by the experimental method. Practical reconstruction will be centred around the ancient Roman household, dining, clothing and education.
Students will first get acquainted with theoretical basics of each topic and, subsequently, with the ancient manufacturing process. They will be then able to create their own Roman attire, jewelry etc.
The workshop extends the content of the course DSMgrA06 Everyday life in ancient Rome by a practical compound. However, for the enrollment into the workshop, it is not obligatory to enroll in/pass the DSMgrA06 (and vice versa).
Learning outcomes
Thanks to the experimental teaching method, students will gain deeper knowledge of every day life in the age of ancient Rome.
They will be acquainted with methods, practice and pitfalls of today's popular trend of historical reenactment ("living history").
If they attend the lectures of DSMgrA06 Everyday life in ancient Rome, as well, the course will enrich its traditional theoretical approach and reading of primary sources with practical skills.
