Course objectives
The course seeks to provide an examination of aspects of literature written in English by Welsh writers as well as English writers situated in regions of mainland Britain which explore aspects of their Celtic history. Writers whose work is included in the course include the Gawain poet, Shakespeare, George Herbert, Henry Vaughan, G.M. Hopkins, Arthur Machen, John Cowper Powys, Emyr Humphreys, Raymond Williams, David Jones, Basil Bunting, and Anthony Powell.
Learning outcomes
Participants who have completed the course should have gained a better understanding of Welsh and related aspects of English literature and culture.

Teaching methods
The course is taught through a combination of close reading, small group and full class discussion and míní-lectures.
Assessment methods
Assessment is by oral contribution and attendance (50%), and an essay of 8-10 pages (double-spaced, print size 12), (50%).
