Course objectives
Main goal of the seminar is to improve the computer literacy of students according to professional needs in history research.
Learning outcomes
The graduate will be able to finalize texts according to the fundamentals of smooth typesetting for further editorial treatment and also participate in the editing. He/she will also know the electronic and classic means of the processing of the correction of a text.
The graduate acquire experience with the construction and critique of hypertext contents. The graduates master the fundamentals of factual academic presentation.
The graduates will be able to orient themselves in the expanding offer of digitized source databases (sources and literature), are acquainted with foreign field information portals.
Syllabus
  • Typographic minimum. Text processing according to the fundamentals of smooth typesetting. Tools for text revision and commentation. Useful tools of the text processor.
  • History on the internet: Basic aids for historical work: online bibliography, database of archival collections. Source databases. Electronic information resources – field databases of specialized literature. Professional information portals. Databases, database applications and their use in research.
  • Historical text and hypertext. Wikipedia as a source of information, its opportunities and limits.

Evaluation of the treatment of the independent tasks in the course of the semester: 1) Processing of the article into Wikipedia, 2) Treatment of a short presentation, 3) Processing of text correction, 4) Basic typographical text processing.
