Course objectives
The subject focuses on information safety and people motly in the electronic environment. The main objective lies not in technical security but in the social aspect of safety in interaction with information and information technologies. Students should be aware of the main threats in this direction and possible basic safety measures that can limit them. We will focus on an ordinary user of information technology, not security at the level of organizations or the country.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to:
- define the basic current problems of information safety with emphasis on social aspects;
- interpret and analyse specific real problems in human-information interaction;
- argue about the reasons and ways of using safety measures when working with information for different target groups;
- evaluate the credibility of information, information resources and communication.

  • 3. Safe behaviour and privacy protection.
  • 4. Security of hardware and software, including mobile technologies. Basics of cryptology and its current using.

  • 5. Misusable of personal information on the Internet and their searching.
  • 6. Social engineering.
  • 7. Malware and junk messages.
  • 8. Cyberbullying, sexting, grooming.
  • 9. Inappropriate and illegal content: extremist movements, religious cult, copyright and pornography.

Teaching methods
E-learning, activity at seminars, practical tasks, reading
Assessment methods
1. Subject theory is available in e-learning (Elf). It is compulsory to study independently before meeting about specific topic.
2. Individual reading of 5 scholarly articles on various course topics and their presentation and discussion in a shared document or in meetings.
3. Individual final task (egosurfing and possible attacks abusing obtained information).
4. For full-time students, attendance and active discussion at meetings following-up e-learning theory are mandatory. Combined students can replace the attendance with an additional task (educational matherial for libraries about information safety published on the Internet).
5. Discussion colloquium verifying acquired knowledge and skills.
