Course objectives
The subject is focused on the specifics of work with clinically significant fungi, with an emphasis on methods of isolation, cultivation, and identification of cultures.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to:
- work aseptically with microscopic fungi in a microbiological laboratory;
- isolate, cultivate and identify microscopic fungi;
- prepare stained and native microscopic slides;
- use some basic identification methods.
Syllabus
  • Structure of the fungal thallus, microscopic examination of specimens, isolation, cultivation and determination methods of micromycetes, growth and morphology changes at various sources and substrates, fermentation and assimilation of carbon compounds, chromogenic methods for rapid identification, demonstration of the most frequent species.
