Prerequisites
Knowledge of general and theoretical physics on the level of the first group of requirements for the bachelor examination of the bachelor study program Physics.
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The lecture summarizes the university course of general and theoretical physics. Its purpose is to give the global survey as well as the sufficient overview of physics as a whole based on the consciousness of integrating ideas, knowledge of general approaches and understanding of universal connections. The knowledge of individual physical disciplines is used but not repeated in detail.
At the end of the course students should understand integrating physical ideas, corresponding general approaches and universal connections in parts of physics covered by the course and be able to explain them.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should understand integrating physical ideas, corresponding general approaches and universal connections in parts of physics covered by the course and be able to explain them.
Syllabus
  • 1. The role of experiments in physics: key experiments and their role in physical theories; physical measurement (exactness and accuracy, methods, treating of results of measurements, sysms of units)
  • 2. Periodical processes: oscillations, examples in mechanics and electricity; harmonical and anharmonical oscillations, small oscillations, harmonic approximation; waves, propagation of waves, examples (mechanics, optics, ...)
  • 3. Systems of many particles: description of classical systems of many particles; quantum systems, identical particles, single-particle approximation
  • 4. Approximative methods: in classical mechanics; in quantum mechanics (perturbation theory, variational methods); examples
  • 5. Structure of mass: interactions; atoms, molecules; structure and properties of atomic nuclei, binding energy; phase transitions; solids
  • 6. History of physics: hhistorical development of physical ideas (structure of mass, nature of light, natude of heat); contribution of physics to knowledge o structure of complex structures, contribution of physics to knowledge of the structure and development of the universe
