Course objectives
Metodology of organic compound analysis on the base of classical chemical methods and instrumental method applications.
Syllabus
  • Introduction-analysis and identification of organic compouds in organic-chemical research and in technology, comparison with inorganic analysis. Identification of unknowns. Preliminary tests, criterion of purity, detection of organoelemets, elemental analysis, physical and chemical constants, tests of solubility, acidobasical behaviour. IR and NMR characteristics of functional groups. Clasification reactions and determination of functional group: amines (reactions with tosylchloride, nitrous acid, acylchlorides,...). Halogencompounds (reactions with ethanolic solution of silver nitrate, acetonic solution of NaI, ethanolic solution of KOH, test with thiourea and picric acid). Carbonyl compounds (reaction with substituted hydrazine, hydroxylamine, semicarbazide, thiosemikarbazide, sodium hydrogensulfit, iodophorm test. Reaction distinction between aldehydic and ketonic carbonyl group). Phenoles (test with ferric trichloride, bromine water, reaction with acylchlorides, diazonium salt). Alkanoles (test with zinc dichloride solution in hydrogen chlorid, with acylchlorides, periodic acid, chromium trioxide, boric acid and sodium test). Unsaturated bonds between carbon atoms (test with permanganate solution, with bromine solution in tetracarbonyl chloride). Carboxylic acids and their functional derivatives (acidity test, hydroxamic reaction, hydrolytic reaction, biuret test, silver nitrate test). Nitro, nitroso, azo, azoxy, hydrazo compounds and substituted hydrazines (reduction with Zn in ammonium chloride solution, oxidizing with ferrous sulphat, nitrole and pseudonitrole test). Aromatics (reaction with fumming sulphuric acid, bromine watter, benzendiazonium salt). Enthers (reaction with HI, bromine water, ...). Thiole, sulphide, disulphide, oxygen sulphur compounds, (test with permanganate solution, ferrous dihydroxide, Grote's reagent, lead tetraacetate, melting with NaOH and detection of sulphate anion). Completation of results, deducation of probably structure of unknown, procedure for their determination (new compound- analogy with known, detection of functional group by reaction and by spectral methods, describe compound-derivatisation). The preparation of derivatives (micromethods of synthezis). Determination of organic compounds by reaction of functional groups, aplication of instrumental methods. Acidobasical, redox methods, determination of water, gaseous metrical methods, gravimetrical, spectral and electroanalytical methods (coulometry, polarography, ...), adsorption (separation) methods. Sceletal analysis-ozonolysis and similar reaction with consequent hydrogenolysis.
