Course objectives
This seminary brings to the students lectures on the latest results obtained at the Department of Molecular Biophysics and Pharmacology, Institute of Biophysics, v.v.i., Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in Brno in the studies of molecular mechanisms underlying antitumor effects of transition metal-based complexes. Also, lectures are given on current fundamental research in molecular biophysics and pharmacology including modern methods of analysis of biomacromolecules and their interactions.

The main objective of the seminar is to provide the students with the ability to
- repeat the current results in molecular biophysics and pharmacology research including modern methods of analysis of biomacromolecules and their interactions
- list and describe the latest results of the studies of molecular mechanisms underlying antitumor effects of transition metal-based complexes.
Syllabus
  • Basic topics:
  • cytotoxicity of osmium, platinum and ruthenium complexes;
  • DNA interactions of osmium, platinum and ruthenium complexes;
  • structure of nucleic acids and their interactions;
  • DNA repair;
  • spectroskopic and thermodynamic methods of analysis of biomacromolekules and their interactions;
  • molecular biology methods of analysis of biomacromolecules and their interactions
