Course objectives
In the end of this course, the student will be able to understand how snow and ice interact with climate and ecosystems.
Syllabus
  • 1. The role and impact of snow on ecosystems and climate.
  • 2. How climate determines the physical properties of snow.
  • 3. Snow and ecosystems: how different vegetation types and snow interact.
  • 4. Snow – climate - ecosystems interactions.
  • 5. Snow and permafrost.
  • 6. Can snow, vegetation and climate form a feedback loop?
  • 7. Climate change: how much will snow-climate feedbacks accelerate global warming?
