- Cíle předmětu
- Basic understanding of the main groups of microorganims with focus on bacteria and archaea from perspectives of:
1) Basic structure and function;
2) Molecular biology and genetics;
3) Metabolic diversity and growth;
4) Major taxonomic groups of bacteria and archaea;
5) Evolution (hologenome and holobiont theory), symbiosis and symbiogenesis;
6) Microbial ecology, role of microorganisms in the environment;
7) Introduction to clinical microbiology and immunity;
8) Introduction to applied and industrial microbiology and biotechnology. - Výstupy z učení
- Students should be able to understand the fundamental aspects of:
1) structure and function of prokaryotes and microbial eukaryotes;
2) interactions among microorganisms and between microbes and other organisms and the environment;
3) significance of microbes in evolution, environment, health and disease;
4) application of microorganisms in biotechnology. - Osnova

- Characteristics of Prokaryotic Cells (Cell Structure and Function);
- Genetics (Replication, Transcription, Translation, Gene Transfer, Mutations, Genome Evolution);
- Microbial Metabolism and Growth (Energy, Matter, and Enzymes, Catabolism of Carbohydrates and Fermentation, Aerobic and Anaerobic Respiration, Lithotrophy and Methanogenesis, Phototrophy, CO2 fixation, Nitrogen fixation);
- Bacterial and Archaeal Diversity (Cyanobacteria, Firmicutes and Actinobacteria, Proteobacteria, Deeply Branching Gram-Negative Bacteria, Spirochetes, Chlamydiae, Planctomycetess, Archaea);
