Syllabus

• Session 1: Course introduction and objectives
• -- presentations of work-in-progress drafts by individual participants
• Sessions 2 to 3: Academic writing theory
• -- in-class assignments and discussion; key areas: research article structure, textual coherence, reading like a writer, academic writing strategies, electronic tools in academic writing, etc.
• Sessions 4 to 12: Academic writing practice
• -- hands-on workshop dedicated to individual manuscript drafts: peer editing, discussions, etc.

Assessment methods

Credits will be assigned to participants who fulfill the following criteria:

Teacher's information

Potential participants should have a work-in-progress manuscript draft at the ready when enrolling in this course. Following several largely theoretical sessions, we will then focus on developing individual manuscripts, i.e. applying the theoretical insights in practice. Our motto for a majority of the course sessions will be learning by doing.
