Course objectives
Seminar extending the lecture from physiology and immunology. Functions of the cell as the basis for organismal functions. Overview and principles of methods for studies of functions of the cell and organism. Immune system and methods of studies. Functions as the target for toxic compounds (toxicologist view).
Syllabus
  • 1. Major cellular functions, connections between organels, signal transductions, intra- and intercellular communications. 2. Cells and receptors. 3. Principles of methods studying physiology of organism (metabolism, gas exchanges, excretions, neural and humoral system). 4. Principles of methods studying physiology of the cells (energy and redox state, cellular membrane, functions of specific cells - blood cells, hepatocytes, renal cells, epithels etc.). 5. Imune system and methods of its study (non-specific and antigen-specific processes, in vitro and in vivo methods). Principles, advantages and disadvantages of the methods. 6. Functions and the cells and the target for xenobiotics - mechanisms of major toxic effects. of major toxic Funkce a buňka jako cíl xenobiotik - mechanismy efektů hlavních toxických látek. 7. Overview of effects of major groups of toxic compounds (industrial compounds, pharmacological substances, environmental pollutants).
