Course objectives
The course presents to the students the principles of devices used in medicine with focus on recognizing possible risks (of mechanical, electromagnetic or optical character, ionizing radiation) connected with the use of these devices. The rules and methods of safe use of these devices is lectured - both at the patients and the healthcare professionals levels. To this end, physical principles of selected physiological processes (cardiovascular system, respiration, origin of membrane potentials) are lectured including the main concepts of the biophysics of sensory organs.

The main objective of the course is to provide the students with the ability to
- list and describe physical principles of selected physiological processes including the main concepts of the biophysics of sensory organs
- list and describe the principles of devices used in medicine and to
- apply this knowledge in recognizing possible risks connected with the use of medical devices and in accepting the rules of safe use of these devices.

Assessment methods
The practical exercises in Biophysics are compulsory, missing practicals have to be substituted. The exam has theoretical character but can be done only with the credits gained for practicals. The exam is oral, consists of 3 questions. The examined student has to demonstrate knowledge of biophysical interactions of the devices used in medicine.
Language of instruction
Czech
