Prerequisites
Final state exam is based on compulsory courses. As fundamentals are overview of genesis of deposits and development of mineral-forming processes. Important part is knowledge of economic and environmental aspects of mining. Basic overview of world and regional sources in CR and their geological context are parts of required knowledge.

Course objectives
Student should be able to explain ore- and mineral-forming processes and basic economic terms of mineral deposits.
Syllabus
  • EG I.: 1. EG: historical aspects of the economic geology, its sources, subject, importance and target. 2. Fundamental terminology of the economic geology. 3. Deposit as an economic subject, economics and reserves. 4. Factors affecting the importance of deposits. 5. Metods of exploration and investigation of deposits, sources and indications. 6. Classification of deposits of raw materials. 6a. Genetic classification and mineral-forming processes. 7. Raw materials for metallurgy, other industrial metals and their main sources. 8. Construction and chemical industrial minerals and their main sources. 9. Energy resources. 10. Principal environmental problems associated with exploitation of deposits and their solutions. EG II.: 1. A classification of mineral deposits, the group of magmatic deposits, pegmatites. 2. Principles of classification of metasomatic deposits and metasomatic processes. 3. Skarns, albitites and greisens, porfyry ores. 4. A classification of hyrothermal deposits, recent hydrothermal processes. 5. Plutonic, subvolcanic and telethermal deposits. 6. A genetic position of subaeric, amagmatic and hydrothermal sedimentary deposits, volcano-sedimentary deposits. 7. Principles of classification of weathering and sedimentary deposits, origin of weathering profiles, residual placers. 8. Other residual deposits, deposits of supergene enrichment, infiltration deposits. 9. Sedimentary deposits and placers, chemogenic and biochemogenic deposits, organogenic deposits. 10. A classification of fossil fuels, organic matter in the earth crust, maturation of organic matter. 11. Coal, oil and other hydrocarbons, a geologic formation of deposits of fossil fuels. 12. Metamorphosed and metamorphic deposits. 13. Time and space aspects of origin of deposits at the Earth. Raw material sources in the world: 1. Introduction, the term of industrial mineral and industrial rock and present features of industrial raw materials. 2a. Representation of particular types of raw materials in the world economy. 2b. Basic categories of sources of raw materials in the world. 3. Raw material policy and its functions, consumption of raw materials and its trends. 4. Life of raw materials, world reserves, its forms and categories. 5. Factors affecting of exploitation of deposits. 6. Price of raw materials and evaluation of deposits. 7. Energy resources. 8. Iron and ferroalloy metals. 9. Nonferrous metals. 10. Precious metals and gems. 11. Chemical industrial minerals (CaCO3, phosphates, evaporites, S, fluorite atc.). 12. Constructional and industrial minerals (for cement industry, aggregate, clays atc.).
