- Main objectives can be summarized as follows:
to present the basic methods and techniques of phys. geographic enquiry;
to give an overview of phys. geographic data resources;
to understand the formal aspects of scientific work in geography. - Learning outcomes
- After finishing the course student should be able to:
present the basic methods and techniques of phys. geographic reserch;
to give an overview of phys. geographic data resources;
to understand the formal aspects of scientific work in geography. - Syllabus
- 1. The main objectives of research and the clasification of methods. Phys. geographical complexes and dimensions as basic units for phys. geographical mapping;
- 2. Recognition and research. Spatial and time scale of an object or researched phenomenon. Stationary, semi-stationary and one-time research;
- 3. Geomorphological mapping. Field research and research in Physical Geography;
- 4. Complex physicogeoraphical mapping;
- 5. Cartographic procedures in geogr. research;
- 6. GIS methods in Physical Geography;
- 7. Instrument measurement in Physical Geography;
- 8. Methods of processing measured data;
- 9. Laboratory work and research from office;
- 10. Models in Physical Geography;
- 11. Physical Geography workgroups in the Czech Republic and their latest published results and methodologies. How to prepare the own data for publication and to present the results?
- 12. Case studies, examples of various currently applied methods within the Geographical Institute.
