The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The main goal of the course is to familiarize students with both instrumental analytical and structural techniques and methodologies, as well as simple analytical procedures, which they can often use in their future conservation-restoration practice.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, students will be able to work independently with modern instrumental analytical devices and interpret the obtained results with an emphasis on their use in the research of cultural heritage objects. Students will independently be able to select, perform and interpret simple analytical procedures, which will allow them to subsequently choose a suitable instrumental method of analysis for the needs of their work.
Syllabus
  • 1. Inductively coupled plasma for optical emission and mass spectrometry (ICP-OES and ICP-MS). 2. Laser ablation and laser spark emission optical spectrometry (LIBS) for local microanalysis. 3. XRF spectrometry 4. IR spectroscopy and their use for material research 5. Raman spectroscopy and their use for materials research 6. Raman laser spectrometry for local microanalysis 7. Microscopic techniques - optical microscope, scanning electron microscope 8. Sample preparation (isotope analysis, SEM, IR) 9. Use of UV radiation in conservation-restoration practice 10. Basic anqlytical methods suitable for determining the approximate composition of the material
