Dore, PhD, MPH, MSW Emory University, USA Emily Dore recently defended her dissertation, “A Structural Approach to Understanding the Long-Term Health Effects of Childhood Poverty” and will graduate with her Ph.D. in Sociology from Emory University in May 2024. In June, Emily will begin a postdoctoral fellowship with the Social Policies for Health Equity Research (SPHERE) Center at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Michal Horný, PhD, MSc Emory University, USA Michal Horný is a health services researcher and an Assistant Professor at Emory University School of Medicine and Rollins School of Public Health. His main research interest is in patients‘ experiences of the cost of care and implications for health care affordability and health equity. He received his PhD in Health Services Research from Boston University School of Public Health. A sociologist and health economist will discuss how their respective fields address population health and health equity. Health equity aims for equal access to health resources and similar health outcomes, especially for underserved groups. Sociological research focuses on social determinants like income, education, gender, and race. Health economics examines healthcare organization, policies, costs, and system barriers. Drs. Dore and Horný will outline their approaches, followed by a discussion led by Dr. Jakub Hlávka from the Health Economics, Policy and Innovation Institute (HEPII) at Masaryk University.
