Present Members of the Senate Jaroslav Bendík, Ivana Černá, Vlastislav Dohnal, Barbora Kozlíková, Michal Kozubek, Jakub Peschel, Tomáš Pitner, Jan Strejček, Vladimír Štill Excused from the Meeting Barbora Bühnová, Dominika Krejčí, David Šafránek Guests Jiří Zlatuška, dean of FI; Pavel Matula, vice-dean for bachelor and master studies; Petr Hliněný, vice-dean for research, development and doctoral studies; Jiří Barnat, vice-dean for curricula; Topics 1. Amounts of study fees for the academic year 2018/2019 2. Miscellaneous 1. Amounts of study fees for the academic year 2018/2019 The fees concerned are the fee for application to a study programme, and the fee for study in a foreign language (English). The fee for application is to be risen from 400 Kč to 600 Kč. The university did a poll which suggests this will have no negative impact on the applicants. The money collected from these fees are used for organization of the entrance exam, as well as for the Students' Advisory Services and faculty propagation. There was a short discussion followed by voting in which all present senators agreed with the proposals. Note: the fees for extended study periods are set by the university and therefore are not discussed on the faculty senate. 2. Miscellaneous Zlatuška, the dean of the faculty, brought information from the rector’s board about the increase of doctoral scholarships. This increase follows the increase of indicators in the state budget which sets financing given to universities for doctoral students. The university will likely decide to increase the minimal doctoral scholarship to 12 000 Kč (from the current 7 000 Kč). This increase should be similar to increases of doctoral scholarships which will be done by other big universities in Czech Republic. On the Facutly of Informatics there will be an additional increase in doctoral scholarships from the semester Spring 2018 which is independent on this increase and payed form the faculty budget. This increase concerns all students of the first year and for other students it will depend on their publication record. This scholarship is now set to 50 % of the base for doctoral scholarships on the university. The dean and the vice-dean for doctoral studies indicated that this scholarship will probably continue, but will not be increased with the rise of the university base scholarship (it will stay at 3 700 Kč). The dean also informed that there was a discussion about the ways of paying of doctoral students. The current way of paying scholarships means that the scholarships are not counted towards the social programmes such as maternity leave and pension. The alternative would be to pay wages to the doctoral students, but this would increase spending for the faculties. Nevertheless, Zlatuška said he suggested this, but did not receive support on the rector’s board. Next, there was a discussion about doctoral study programmes in the English language. The university does not receive state funding for these students and these students have to pay study fees. This goes counter to the attempts of having high quality doctoral students from abroad. The dean further mentioned that he sees no problems in the current version of the proposal of the university budget. On the next meeting the academic senate will be voting on the faculty budget and it should happen the week after the Easters. The date was set to be Wednesday 4th April at 14:30. The same meeting will also go through the proposals of new curricula. Recorded and translated by Vladimír Štill Version from the 28th February 2018
