Masaryk University Faculty of Law Instruction No. 2/2024 On certain conditions of support for teams preparing for international and national moot court competitions and conditions for the implementation of summer school and student conference events (as amended with effect from 1 February 2024) Pursuant to Section 28(1) of Act No. 111/1998 Coll., on Higher Education Institutions and on Amendments and Additions to Other Acts (the Higher Education Act), as amended (hereinafter referred to as the "Higher Education Act"), I issue this instruction: This guideline regulates the conditions of support for teams preparing for international or national moot court competitions according to Article 9 of the Masaryk University Faculty of Law Measure No. 5/2021. This Instruction also regulates certain conditions for the implementation of summer school and student conference events organized by the Faculty of Law of Masaryk University (hereinafter referred to as the "Faculty"). This instruction is without prejudice to other possible measures resulting from other regulations of the MU Faculty of Law. I. Support for moot court events 1) Support for moot court competitions (hereinafter referred to as competition) is linked to the inclusion of the study subject (hereinafter referred to as subject) in the study plan of the relevant study programme. 2) In addition to the general requirements, the proposal for inclusion of a course in the study plan must include: a) a description of the competition, including a link to the relevant website, b) a list of events (including pre-moot courts) where the team expects to participate, including the location and justification for participation, c) the estimated total cost of participating in the competition, d) any external partners that will be involved in supporting the team and the expected amount of financial support, e) the number of students expected to participate and how they will be selected. 3) The teacher has the possibility to announce a selection procedure for participation in the competition. In such a case, he/she must inform the students in due time. The basic condition is transparency and objectivity in the selection of students. 4) A proposal for the inclusion of a course is submitted by the course sponsor or the head of the department within the deadlines set by the schedule to the Vice-Dean for Master's Studies. In justified cases, the proposal may be submitted outside the given deadline. 2 5) By approving the course and including it in the curriculum, the faculty commits to support the subject competition to the extent that will be included in the communication to the course sponsor. 6) The course is included in the study plan of the respective study programme only for the semester in question. For the implementation of the course in subsequent semesters, a new proposal containing the information under point 2 (b) to (e) must be submitted. 7) Support for participation in the competition will be focused primarily on the final rounds. Where participation in the finals is conditional on completing the 'preliminary round', support will be decided on a case-by-case basis, taking into account its nature, importance, appropriateness and adequacy of resources. No support will be granted to other activities not corresponding to the above. However, they may, by their nature, be supported from other sources (projects, sponsorship, etc.). 8) Doctoral students who are involved in advising a team or serving as mentors or judges for a competition may be awarded an exceptional stipend. This scholarship will be proposed and justified by the course supervisor as to its purpose and amount. 9) The course sponsor is responsible for preparing the final report on the course of the competition. The final report includes, in particular, a description of the course of the competition, the final placement, the contribution to the faculty and students, and a list of the participants in the competition. The final report must be sent to the Vice Dean for Graduate Studies no later than one month after the final round of the competition. II. Support for summer school and student conference events 1) The organiser of a summer school or student conference (hereinafter referred to as the event) is obliged to announce the event at least two months before it is scheduled to take place. 2) The notification is addressed electronically to the Vice-Dean for Master's Studies or the Vice-Dean for Doctoral Studies and Rigorosis Proceedings (in case the event is addressed to students of Bachelor's or Master's and Doctoral programmes, the notification is addressed to both Vice-Deans) and includes the following information: a) Name, designation of the event (conference, summer school), including justification for classification as a summer school or student conference, b) expert guarantor of the event, c) the date and location of the event - if the event is to take place outside the Faculty premises, the notification must also include a justification, d) in the case of a multi-day event, the extent of the professional part of the programme (at least 6 hours per day on average), e) the number of students with an indication of the study programme for which the event is intended, including information on whether the event is also organised for students of other faculties of Masaryk University or other universities, f) expected programme of the event, g) the estimated costs of the event to be covered by the scholarship fund and information on possible support from other sources (project, sponsorship, etc.) 3 3) The relevant Vice-Dean will inform the organiser of the event within two weeks of receipt of the notification of the conditions and extent of the faculty's support for the event in relation to Masaryk University Faculty of Law Measure No. 5/2021.
