anotace:

Edukace je pro Johna Deweye sociální proces, jehož účinnost je měřitelná prostřednictvím

rozsahu, v němž jedinec dokáže rozvíjet svoje sociální vztahy a návyky umožňující dosáhnout
významných změn bez toho, aby došlo k vážným rozkolům v integritě jedince či společnosti.
Pedagogická věda podle Deweye nestojí na pedagogických teoriích, na poznatcích přírodních věd, na
učitelích, ani na kurikulích, ale na pedagogickém procesu samotném. Jeho cílem je co největší
rozvoj jedince v daném sociálním a přírodním prostředí. Právě touto vazbou je edukace vnitřně
spjata s myšlenkou úplné demokracie. Je nutnou podmínkou a hlavním nástrojem jejího uskutečnění.
Demokracie je tak v pragmatismu a pragmatistické filozofii edukace definována jako funkcionální
záležitost vymezená šíří možností pozitivního rozvoje jedince a společnosti, nikoli předem danou
rigidní, esencialistickou definicí.


anotation:

For John Dewey, education is a social process that is measurable in terms of  the extent to which
individuals develop social relationships and such habits  of mind that allow significant change
without major disruption. Dewey argues that the sources of a science of education lie not with
educational theorists, not with the physical sciences, not with teachers, and not with the
curriculum.  In his view, the sources of a science of education lie within the educational process
itself. His aim is broad development of an individual in a given physical and social environment.
This close bond between individual and environment tie internally education together with idea of a
real democracy. Education is an indispensable condition of democracy, because, in pragmatism,
democracy is defined as a function which is specified by breadth of possibilities of mutual
individual and environmental development. Thus democracy is not determined by any given rigid,
essentialist definition.
