Measure of the Faculty of Social Studies of Masaryk University No. 11/2024 Placement abroad of doctoral students (as amended effective from February 17, 2025) Pursuant to Section 28(1) of Act No. 111/1998 Coll., on Higher Education Institutions and on Amendments and Supplements to Other Acts (the Higher Education Act), as amended (hereinafter referred to as the Higher Education Act), I issue the following measure: Article 1 Subject of the regulation The subject of the regulation is the specification of the obligation to undertake a foreign placement as part of doctoral studies in accordance with the Methodological Sheet No. 2/2024 "Foreign Placements of Doctoral Students" of the Research Department of the MU Rectorate. Article 2 Obligation to undertake a placement abroad 1. Students of Czech and English doctoral study programmes, both full-time and combined, at the MU Faculty of Social Sciences are obliged to undertake a foreign stay of at least 90 days as part of their studies. 2. This obligation applies to students studying from the matriculation year 2016/17 (all study programmes except Psychology), or with the start of studies in the spring semester 2017 (Psychology). Article 3 Possibilities for a placement abroad 1. The foreign stay may be completed in its entirety or in the form of two or three shorter stays, each of which must be at least 30 days long (stays of less than 30 days do not count towards the obligation to complete the foreign stay). 2. Of these, at least 60 days must take the form of a physical stay at a foreign institution. 3. The remaining 30 days may be substituted in any of the following ways: a. An international publication with a significant (i.e., at least 20 percent coauthorship) contribution by a foreign co-author. Only an article published (or accepted for publication) in a journal indexed in the Web of Science (Jimp) can be accepted as the equivalent of a foreign stay. The student must be listed as first or corresponding author in the publication. A foreign author is defined as an author working at a foreign institution (excluding the Slovak Republic) with a Ph.D. or equivalent. The authorial contribution of the foreign co-author shall be documented by the student in his/her affidavit. b. An international blended learning activity that combines face-to-face and online learning activities. In addition to the physical stay abroad, synchronous and asynchronous activities directly related to the participation in the international activity (e.g. participation in online lectures, writing papers or studying teaching materials) are included in the duration of the stay. 4. The obligation to participate in the international placement does not entitle the student to receive funding from the Faculty of Social Studies. Students are advised to take advantage of the possibilities of external programmes; an overview of these is available on the Faculty's website. Article 4 Records of completion of a placement abroad 1. Students are obliged to register their stay in advance in the record of internships, study and work stays in the MU Information System (IS) and to apply for recognition of the course through the IS Stay Record application upon return from the stay. This obligation does not apply to the compensation under Article 3(3). 2. Students who are also MU employees must inform the Human Resources Department of their departure at least 30 days in advance. 3. For completing a foreign placement of 90 days, students will receive 20 ECTS credits in the subjects FSSd0900 Researcher Abroad or FSSd0990 Placement Abroad. In the case of a split stay, the student enrolls in the course repeatedly and receives a pro rata number of credits for each partial stay fulfilling the condition under 3(1). 4. In the case of substitution of part of a foreign placement according to Article 3(3), learners may earn a maximum of 6 credits for the course FSSd0900 Researcher Abroad. Article 5 Final provisions 1. I hereby delegate the interpretation of the individual provisions of this measure to the Vice-Dean for Science and Doctoral Studies. 2.
