depuis
to indicate the beginning of the current situation that continues

à partir de
from (the start of the action)
- Il va habiter à Nice à partir du mois prochain.
jusqu’à
until (the end of the action)
- J´ai travaillé jusqu´à 19 heures.
avant + noun, avant de + inf.
before
- Il faut tout terminer avant le déjeuner.
- Avant de téléphoner aux clients, vérifiez toutes les données.
pour
for (to indicate the limited and planned length of time)
- Nous partons en Belgique pour quinze jours.
pendant
for (to indicate the length of the event, the course of the event)
- J´y ai travaillé pendant deux ans.
dans
in (for situating what is happening in the future)
- Laroche remplacera monsieur Dupuis dans trois jours.
en
in (to indicate the time required to realize the action)
- Nous avons fini tout le travail en une heure et demie.

We do not use a preposition with days of the week.
- Mardi, on va au cinéma.
It is necessary to put the article
- to express a habit
- Le lundi, je vais à la piscine.
- for a specific date
- Le (mercredi) 4 janvier, je pars à la montagne.
Le lieu / Place
chez X à X en
The preposition chez is used for people or for companies:
- Je vais chez le coiffeur, chez le pharmacien, chez le médecin, chez mon ami Michel, chez mes parents, chez toi...
- Je travaille chez Alcatel, chez McDonald’
- Je fais mes courses chez Casino, chez Lidl.
The preposition à (contracted with the article - au, à l’, à la, aux) is used for places:
- Je vais au supermarché, au cinéma, à l’école, à la maison, à la banque, aux Etats-Unis…
For the countries we use the preposition à (masculine gender) and en (female gender
or those that start with a vowel/silent h):
- au Brésil, au Japon, au Portugal, au Canada, au Royaume-Uni, aux Etats-Unis, aux Antilles, aux Pays-Bas…
- en France, en République tchèque, en Corée du Sud, en Inde, en Angleterre, en Irak, en Hongrie…
