Practical Language Course Requirements 2nd Year Bachelors (Monday) Masaryk University Pedagogical Faculty Robert Westbrook B.A. Course Description: This course is a continuation of Language Skills 2B. This is an advanced communicative English language course that will improve the overall fluency, accuracy, and understanding of the student in the areas of writing, speaking, reading, and listening. Textbook Used: Inside Out Advanced Specific Requirements: Attendance: Attendance in mandatory! Each student may have ONE unexcused absence. This is an eleven week course and every lesson counts. For each lesson missed beyond the first, the student will lose 7 pts from their final average. Writing assignment: There will be a three page writing assignment that will be due at the end of May. Students may submit their paper up to two weeks before the final due date for a returned (unmarked) paper with corrections/suggestions. Only the final paper that is handed in will be marked. There will be no exceptions to the due date. Late papers will NOT be accepted. Oral Presentations: Each student will be required to participate in a structured debate that will occur at the end of the term. You will be given at least one month to prepare, but class time will not be used preparation. E-Learning: Each week, the instructor will add materials on IS that you are required to read/do. Some of the materials will be reviewed in class, whereas the majority will not. There will also be exercises to practice vocabulary and grammar that are covered in the course book and in class. Exams: There will be two exams. They will cover material from the course book as well as from the supplemental e-learning material on IS. The first exam will be during the 6th week of class and the second will fall in the exam period. Points: You need 65% to pass this course (do not forget attendance penalties.) Exam 1: 20 pts Writing: 10 pts Debate: 30 pts Exam 2: 30 pts Participation: 10 pts = 100 pts
