Czech School System Organization of Course Course Condition §The system of education in the Czech Republic is based on the Education Act which defines a gradual process of gaining qualifications at different levels of the school system. A mainstay of the system is divided into three areas of education: primary (elementary), secondary (middle) and tertiary (other). §Primary education (age 6-14) is provided by network of primary schools in the duration of nine years. In the Czech Republic nine years of obligatory schooling are anchored in the law and may be preceded by pre-school education (age 3-6) organized by kindergartens. §Secondary education (age 15-17/18) follows -up the primary and consists usually of three or four years, but there are also one-year and two-year courses (provided by specific Practical schools). Secondary education is provided by secondary schools and is divided into secondary education with a vocational certificate (duration of 2-3 years of secondary vocational schools) and secondary education with GCSE=maturita exam (usually four years in length, mainly grammar schools and secondary vocational schools). §Tertiary education (age 19 and above) allows secondary school graduates to further enhance their qualifications in a variety of study programms either at universities or colleges. §According to the OECD's 2007 Czech Republic to education go10 percent of public expenditures, which in comparative chart ranks the penultimate place with Japan.
