ACCULTURATION

 - necessity  is to forget

- successful inclusion does not rest only in speaking the language properly

As Richard Rodrigues (1982) in Hunger of Memory says “ to succeed one has to lose one’s private
identity and find a public one” (pp.9-40)



IDENTITY

A person in all societies is concerned with linking their personal existence to that of others and
to find meaning, or part of meaning, through identification with others. The identification with
others is a behaviour regulator, i.e. you observe the same norms as the group you want to identify
yourself with, not only in language but also behaviour.
