XD107 Doctoral Seminar in Chemistry Ph.D. Student Conference Starting this Spring Semester 2016, the seminar XD107 will be held as a student conference scheduled in the examination term at the end of the particular semester. In the current Spring semester the conference will be held on Monday May 23, 2016 from 9:00 in A11/132 lecture hall The conference will consist of lectures and poster presentations. The scientific quality of lectures and posters and presentation skills will be assessed by a panel composed of chairs of doctoral committees and other experts. Attendance at the conference in each semester is compulsory for all doctoral students of both present and combined form of study during the standard study period (the first four years). The course carries 1 credit per semester. The credits will be awarded for attendance in the semester in which student does not present a lecture or posters. For a successful completion of doctoral studies: 1) A student has to acquire a number of credits that equals the number of actual semesters studied. 2) During the actual time of doctoral studies, a student has to present two posters in English on the progress of his/her dissertation work. The posters may be presented starting the third semester of doctoral studies. The poster will be assessed by a panel composed of chairs of doctoral committees and other experts. If the poster is approved, the credit for the course XD107 will be awarded. If the poster fails the committee approval, it has to be improved and presented in the following semester. Posters that were prepared for presentations at domestic or international conferences in the preceding or following semesters could be used for the XD107 conference. 3) A student wishing to submit his/her thesis for defense has to deliver one lecture in English that summarizes the results of his/her dissertation, this lecture should be presented in the semester prior to the thesis defense. The lecture summarizing major findings of the doctoral research work should be prepared for 20 minutes with 10 min left for questions and discussion. The lecture will be assessed by a panel composed of chairs of doctoral committees and other experts. If the lecture is approved, the credit for the course XD107 will be awarded. If the lecture fails the committee approval, it has to be repeated in the following semester. That may result in thesis defense delay. Students wishing to present their compulsory lecture or posters will send a one-page abstract of their lecture or poster to the person in charge of the conference (Jiri Pinkas) at the beginning of a semester in which they want to present. The Ph.D. supervisors are expected to be present for the conference. Prof. RNDr. Jiří Pinkas, Ph.D. Head of the Chemistry Doctoral Program Committee
