I. Studying at university

Make 5 wh... questions that you would like to ask / you would like to know about someone you see
for the first time. You can also think about questions that you would like to ask your new teacher.


In pairs exchange any information you have about Masaryk  University (faculties, halls of
residence, famous students, famous/strict teachers/lecturers, gossip about the most
difficult/easiest subjects, etc.)




II. MU Structure

There are nine faculties at MU, can you name them? At which department can you study mathematics?


On the strips of paper there are names of courses/fields of study within the department mentioned
above. Put them into two columns. Which course are you enrolled on?




III. Read through the incomplete script of the listening about Libor Novák, and try to guess the
missing words. Next listen to the recording and check whether your guesses were right.


Hello. My name is Libor Novák and I come from Jeseník, a small town with a population of about
10,000, in the mountains of northern Moravia but I’m ……………… living and studying in Brno. I study
chemistry at the Faculty of ………………….., which is very ...................................... but I
am enjoying the challenge. I’m in the second year of a five year ……………….. which means that next

V. Speaking about your schedule

Work with a neighbour. Take your schedule and talk about your studies. Ask and answer these
questions:

a)      What was your favourite subject at high school (grammar school / technical college)? Which
was your least favourite subject? Why? Compare it to another subject.

b)     What field of study are you currently studying? Why did you choose this field of study?

c)      How many classes a week do you have?

d)     What subjects are you studying this semester? Which lectures and seminars do you attend?
Which of them are compulsory subjects and which are options?

e)      Do you have early morning or late afternoon classes? When?

f)      Which day of the week are you free in the morning / in the
afternoon?                                   Do you have a free day?
