Formulation of the research objective
1. Formulate a specific research question. For example, it could be a question that you would like to
address in your thesis. Or any topic that seems attractive to you. (The choice of the research question
for this assignment is not binding and you can write your thesis on a completely different topic). The
research question should not be too complex, but neither trivial (e.g. one to which you already know
the answer in advance). It should be a question (e.g. In what aspects can climate change affect the
volume and flows of international migration?), i.e. not just a topic (e.g. environmental migration).
While the formulation of the research objective is usually preceded by a detailed study of the
literature (the aim of which is to determine the current state of knowledge in the field), in this case it
is not required.
2. Suggest a method by which the above question could be answered. A method is a set of
procedures and techniques that are needed to answer a research question. For example, what data
will be needed, how you will collect or obtain this data, how you will sort and analyze the data, how
you will interpret the results, whether you will verify the results, etc.
