- 1.What is course registration and what is its purpose?Course registration allows you to select the courses in which you want to enroll. Provided you meet certain conditions specified for a concrete course (its enrollment pre-requisites), and unless the course is full, your registration will be confirmed and you will be enrolled in it. If you fail to meet the conditions, the course will be marked red and you will not be enrolled. You can only be enrolled in a course during the enrollment period and the period of enrollment changes (for more information, see Term Calendar).
- 2.How can I register for a course?Registration templates are tools which make the registration process easier and that is also a reason why you are recommended to use them. - 4.What are the individual references in the registration application used for?The registration application offers the following options:
- Add courses using a template:
Using this option, you can register for courses with the aid of registration templates designed by the faculty.
- Add courses by entering their codes:
Use this option provided you know the code of the course that you want to add to the registration list.
- Add uncompleted courses, which I have to repeat:
The option allows you to register for the courses you have not completed (provided they are offered in the term selected). Study and Examination Regulations require that a student repeat the course he/she failed in the nearest possible term the course is offered. Therefore, even if you do not add the uncompleted courses to the registration list using this option, the System will do so automatically during the enrollment period.
- Add starred courses:
This option enables you to register for the courses you have marked as favourite. For more information on how to mark courses as favourite, please go to Can I mark some courses as favourite?
- Prepare a batch of courses to register for (a registration batch) before the start of registration period:
This option proves particularly useful in course hunts (for further information, see below).
- All faculties:
This displays a list of all the faculties with links to courses offered to all the students studying at the school as well as faculty templates.
- Cancel my course registration:
This option allows you to cancel your registration for a course.
- Change completion type of one of the courses:
The option can only be used provided the course offers more than one type of completion to choose from (e.g. examination and “”requirements fulfilled”)
- Change credit value of one of the courses:
The option can only be used provided the student is allowed to decide on the number of credits he/she is to gain for the completion of the course. The credit value can be changed during the enrollment period and the period of enrollment changes only.
- Automatic enrollment in the courses successfully registered for done during the enrollment period:
Students are automatically enrolled in the courses they have registered for successfully by the System. This automatic operation is performed every night. The option allows you to enroll in the courses manually right away.
- Refresh the list of the courses registered for and enrolled in:
This reference takes you back to the list of courses.
- Enrollment in seminar groups:
Provided a course requires you to enroll in one of its seminar groups, use this reference to do so.
- Catalogue of Courses:
Look up the courses you find interesting (e.g. by their names).
- Browse templates of faculties:
Use this reference to browse the templates (sorted by fields of study) of individual faculties.
- Offer for students of all faculties:
This option displays courses offered by the whole of MU to the students of all the faculties and fields.

- 5.When and how can I cancel my registration for or enrollment in a course?Your registration for or enrollment in courses can be canceled during the registration and enrollment periods, as well as the periods of registration and enrollment changes. You can cancel your registration for/enrollment in individual courses by clicking on “registration/enrollment cancellation” in the Requesting column of the table listing these courses.
You can also cancel your registration for/enrollment in more than one course at a time using the following path:

- 6.What is the difference between registration, enrollment and changes in enrollment?
- The registration period determines the interest of students in courses. Students can obtain better time stamps for capacity-limited courses.
- During this period there is an automatic enrollment / confirmation of subjects for which enrollment conditions have been met (capacity, prerequisites, etc.). Only at the moment of enrollment do you acquire the right and obligation to study the course. Courses can still be registered or canceled, registration without problems is automatically enrolled every night.
- Changes in enrollment
- Courses can still be registered or canceled at the time of final registration changes. Registration without problems is automatically registered every night.
- 7.Why does the registration system prioritize students repeating courses?According to Study and Examination Regulations (Article 21, Section 2), it is every student's duty to repeat the course he/she has failed to complete in the nearest possible term the course is offered. The Information System prioritizes each such student to enable him/her to fulfill this duty. For information on how students are prompted to enroll in the courses they have failed to complete, see the section Prompting students to enroll in the courses they have failed to complete.
- 8.Prompting students to enroll in the courses they have failed to completeWhen it comes to prompting you to enroll in the courses you have failed to complete, the following rules apply:
WarningStudents are not prompted to register for courses in the following situations:
- You get automatically registered for the course which you have failed to complete and which is not offered every term before the start of registration period. This way, you get the best position in the registration queue (enrollment waiting list).
- You do not get automatically registered for the course which you have failed to complete and which is offered every term before the start of registration period since some of the currently enrolled students may not have been granted their grades yet, i.e. they may not have completed the course yet. For such a course, you will be registered automatically only before the start of enrollment period and you will be given enrollment preference over those who are not repeating it. However, you are recommended to carry out the registration yourself (and not leave it up to the System) as soon as you become aware of the fact you have to repeat the course.
- If you get a grade completing the course in the meantime, in which case you are no longer required to repeat it, or if your Office for Studies approves your application for course repetition exemption, the Information System cancels your previously completed registration automatically.
Provided the course you are required to repeat is marked red as a result of, for instance, a pre-requisite issue, you should attend to the problem by, for example, applying for en enrollment permission/exception or else you might wind up unenrolled and become a student failing to fulfill his/her study requirements, which might result in termination of your studies.
- required PE courses – instead of the sport you have not completed, you may decide on another one, which you should register for separately,
- interrupted studies – provided you plan to enroll in a term (studies), please make sure that you register for courses separately and have your studies resumed by the Office for Studies as soon as possible, as this act, if done in time, prevents the situations where there are no longer any vacancies in courses,
- Studies with customized study plans – students can be prompted to register for the courses they have failed to complete by the Office for Studies after the period of registration/enrollment changes.
- 9.What determines my position (on the waiting list)? Why has it changed?Provided there is a capacity limit imposed on a course, every student who has registered for it occupies a certain position on the enrollment waiting list, which is compiled on the first-come-first-served basis. Your current position is specified in the Positioncolumn.
The waiting list is compiled according to the following rules:
- The students who have already enrolled in the course are situated at the top of the list and their position is 0. The number of these can be found in the Numbers section.
- The students situated below these are those who are required to repeat the course. In most cases, these get registered by IS at the start of registration period. As for the students required to repeat courses offered every term, these get registered at the start of enrollment period. Their current number, i.e. the number of those who have not completed the course yet, can be found in the Repeating section.
- The students enrolled in the field of studies the course is directly associated with are given preference over the others. To find out whether you are one of these students, check out the section titled 'Preference'. The numbers of students with and without preference can be found in the Numbers section.
- The students not enrolled in the field of studies the course is directly associated with and those not repeating the course are listed last.
- The association of the course with a field of study listed in the Course Catalogue changes, i.e. the number of students who are given enrollment preference changes.
- Some new students repeating the course appear on the list before the start of enrollment period and the System registers them automatically.
- Some students who interrupted their studies in the past have resumed these and enrolled in the term.
- The Office for Studies staff have enrolled some students manually (applies to special situations).
- Someone ahead of you on the waiting list has canceled his/her registration or interrupted his/her studies, which has moved you up the list.
- You may move up the list provided someone occupying a position in front of you cancels his/her enrollment in the course he/she was supposed to repeat, he/she is no longer required to repeat it or he/she interrupts/terminates his/her studies. You may also move up the list in the situation where a student in a position in front of you has the course recognized.
- 10.I do not want to repeat an elective course. How can I apply for being exempted from this duty?To apply for being exempted from repeating a course, please use the following path:The Information System Student Start of Term Apply for course-repetition exemptionThe Study and Examination Regulations (Section 20, Part 3) says the following:
A student may decide not to fulfil the obligation to repeat a course as specified in subsection 1 if such a course is elective for the studies in question; the amount of courses thus not repeated must not exceed one tenth of the minimum credit value of such studies. Following the completion of the requirements imposed by a compulsory group of courses, all other enrolled courses in that group are considered elective.
The application the path to which is given above also specifies how many credits you have already used up for being exempted from repeating courses up to now and enables you to submit the course-repetition exemption application. After the submission, the Office for Studies will either grant you the course-repetition exemption or they will reject your application, which can be withdrawn any time before it is attended to by the Office. Provided you are not sure whether the course whose repetition you want to be exempted from is elective, please contact your Office for Studies.WarningThe minimum credit value is calculated from the standard length of studies. If the student is actively enrolled in several fields within the same programme of studies, the minimum credit value is calculated from the length of the longest of these. The calculation is based on the addition of 30 credits for each semester. The Information System does not have any tools to distinguish between required and elective courses yet. Therefore, it may also allow you to apply for being exempted from repeating the courses which are designated as required for you. Hence, please ensure that the course whose repetition you want to be exempted from is designated as elective since this will spare the Office for Studies the trouble of rejecting your application in the situation where this is not the case. The IS development team apologize for the inconvenience the absence of this feature may cause.
The application displays the list of all the courses you have failed to complete. Please make inquiries into which of them your programme of studies lists as elective. You can only be exempted from repeating a course unless the total credit value of all the courses for which you have been granted a course-repetition exemption exceeds 10 percent of the minimum credit value of your programme of studies.
- 11.My registration record is marked red. How can I apply for the enrollment permission/exception?The red marking of a course signals problems preventing you from enrolling in the course. The problems can be of several kinds.
In some situations, it is possible to apply for enrollment permission/exception with the teacher of the course using the enrollment exception application link, which you can find in the table listing the courses you have registered for/enrolled in in the Enrolled column. Provided your registration has been unsuccessful merely as a result of you not meeting an enrollment pre-requisite, i.e. your registration record has the correct time stamp, you have filled one of the vacancies available on the course and thus prevent the students with a later time stamp from registering for it despite the fact they have met all the enrollment pre-requisites. However, if you meet the enrollment pre-requisite you have not met yet by the required date, i.e. during the enrollment period, you will be enrolled in the course with the original time stamp. NB: The last item is only available during the enrollment period (not the registration one) since most registration problems (pre-requisites not met as well as others) get resolved prior to its start. The application offers you the form you can use for inserting the text intended for the teacher of the course. Please state the reasons why you think you should be granted the permission to enroll in the course. By clicking on the button accompanying the form, you will submit your application and notify the teacher of the fact. You can also use the same page to cancel an application submitted before. Provided your registration record has changed from red into white (i.e. there are no longer any circumstances preventing you from registering for the course), the change is visible to the teacher as well. Therefore, the application cancellation is not necessary in such a case. If you decide to submit your application for enrollment permission, please do so in time for the teacher to be able to process it by the end of the period during which enrollment changes can be made. If you do so late, you will not be enrolled. Providing the teacher grants you the permission/exception, your red registration record changes into white. From that moment on, you can be enrolled in the course. The teacher's permission, if granted, overrides all enrollment pre-requisites. There are situations where the course enrollment permission/exception cannot be applied for, i.e. those where the teacher is not allowed to grant the permission/exception. In such situations, students can only be enrolled in the course by the Office for Studies staff.

- 12.What does the term of pre-requisites stand for?Pre-requisites represent the requirements which the student must meet to be allowed to enroll in a course.

If, for instance, an enrollment pre-requisite series has the form of IB000 && “something_else” and a student has not completed IB000, the “something_else” condition is no longer checked and IB000 is reported as a condition which has not been met. However, provided a pre-requisite series has the form of IB000 || “something_else” and the student has not completed IB000, it is “something_else” that is reported as a condition which has not been met (provided this is the case, of course).
The exclamation mark in front of a course code marks the course whose completion prevents the enrollment in the course in question.Tip: Example

If a student has not completed IB000, the System moves on to the next condition, i.e. IB112, and checks it for its validity. If the System finds out that the IB112 condition has not been met either, it returns 0 && "something_else" without checking the very last part, i.e. !IA008. In this situation, the last checked condition is IB112 and, as it is not met, this particular item is reported as a problem.
- 13.Where can I find out what courses I am expected to register for?This information is available in the Course Catalogue. Furthermore, you can also use the registration template prepared for your field. Regardless of whether you decide to use the template or not, please ensure you always consult the Catalogue about the recommendations for the students enrolled in your field. To get some further information on a course, click on its code. As the information is provided by its teacher(s) or course guarantor, its extent may vary from the extent of information available on other courses.
You can find the following items in the course information section:
- Extent and intensity
- This section provides information on teaching sessions (there can be three possible types) and their amount. The information listed relates to lectures, seminars, and other teaching activities (laboratory practice, projects, etc.), respectively.
- This section lists the people participating in teaching the course and the extent to which they do so (lecturer, seminar tutor, assistant, etc.).
- A person or department responsible for running the course. This section also lists a person one can contact to discuss general matters concerning the course.
- Timetable-related information
- Times at which the course is taught.
- Enrollment requirements and information about whether you meet them or not (see the link “Do I meet enrollment requirements?”).
- Course enrollment limitations
- Course enrollment limitations such as course capacity limit, restrictions imposed on certain fields of study, etc.
- Fields of study the course is directly associated with
- The fields the course has been primarily designed for and students of which are given enrollment preference.
- Course objectives
- These describe teaching outcomes, i.e. knowledge, skills, etc. which students should have after completing the course.
- List of topics to be dealt with during the course.
- List of books the students enrolled in the course are recommended to read.
- Teaching methods
- This section describes the methods used to achieve course objectives (e.g. theoretical part, laboratory practice, etc.).
- Assessment methods
- A section describing teacher's requirements related to students' attendance, assignments, examinations, etc.
- Follow-up courses
- This section lists related courses.
- Teacher's information
- A section usually containing information about teacher's office hours, various links to Web pages and other information sources.
- Further comments
- Other information related to the course.
- Listed among pre-requisites of other courses
- The courses whose enrollment requires completion of this course. List of courses the enrollment in which requires completion of the course and the link 'Do I meet enrollment requirements?'.

- Lists all the information on the course.

- An application providing evaluation statistics and success rates of the course in previous terms.

- This application displays the numbers of students registered for or enrolled in the selected courses (applies to the current term).

- Results of the course opinion poll conducted for the previous term.

- List of discussion groups created for the course under all the terms it was offered.

- 14.How can I find out about the registration dates for my faculty?To do so, use the following path:The Information System Student Start of Term Course Registration and Enrolment Is the registration period under way? When can I register for courses?Here you can find dates of registration and enrollment periods as well as those of the periods of enrollment changes valid for individual faculties. The dark vertical line marks today's date. For concrete dates, click on a row or move your mouse cursor over a period in a stripe. If the date the cursor is pointing to is a future one, the number of days remaining till this date will be displayed bellow the table. Further information about a registration wave, change of registration period start date, number of credits to gain to reach the required total, etc. can be found below the table.

- 15.What are registration waves?The term “registration waves” refers to the phases of a registration period during which the registration opens for certain groups of students in succession. Registration waves always start on weekdays and there are usually five of them with each subsequent one allowing more students to register for courses than the previous one. Every student is assigned to a certain registration wave according to the number of credits he/she has to gain to reach the total required for the completion of his/her studies within a programme. This number is calculated as the difference between the minimal credit value, i.e. the standard length of the student's studies in years multiplied by 30, and the number of credits the student has gained up to now which, at the same time, have already been included in the total of his/her programme (this also covers the credits gained for recognized courses). Provided the latter is greater than the former, the result is considered to be 0.
The Information System Student Start of Term Course Registration and Enrolment When can I register for courses? recalculate creditsThis application cannot be used between 16:45 and 17:15 and at the time the system workload degree is 2 or higher. Provided you plan to use it, please do so sufficiently ahead of the course hunt so as to avoid technical difficulties.

- It is the students whose number of credits to gain for them to reach the total required for the completion of their studies is lower than 61 and all doctoral students that are allowed to start registering for courses from the very start of registration period.
- The second registration wave
- It is the students whose number of credits to gain for them to reach the total required for the completion of their studies is lower than 121 that are allowed to start registering for courses two weekdays after the start of registration period.
- The third registration wave
- It is the students whose number of credits to gain for them to reach the total required for the completion of their studies is lower than 181 that are allowed to start registering for courses four weekdays after the start of registration period.
- The fourth registration wave
- It is the students whose number of credits to gain for them to reach the total required for the completion of their studies is lower than 241 that are allowed to start registering for courses six weekdays after the start of registration period.
- The fifth registration wave
- It is all the students that are allowed to register for courses eight weekdays after the start of registration period.
- 16.I cannot register/cancel my registration for coursesThere might be several reason why you cannot register for courses:
- You may have selected a wrong term:
- Please ensure that you have selected the right term (see the top of the registration page).

- If the Information System does not display any information related to the programme of studies you have newly enrolled in

- The registration period has not yet started for you:
- Another reason why you might not be able to register for any courses is that the
registration period has not started for your faculty yet or you are not a student covered by the registration wave which is currently under way. To
find out on what date you can start registering for courses, use the “When can I register for courses?” reference placed at the top of the main

- I cannot find the course I would like to register for:
- Provided the registration period is under way, but you still cannot find a certain course in your registration template, please look its code up in the Course Catalogue and try to register for it manually (using the code). Another cause of the aforementioned problem might be the fact the course is not offered during the term and thus cannot be registered for.
- The period of enrollment changes is over, so no changes can be made any longer.
- It is a day preceding the start of enrollment period.
- 17.May I register for a course offered by some other faculty?Yes, you can register for courses offered by other MU faculties. You can access these by clicking on the All faculties link in the registration application. All the courses open to students of all the faculties can be found under the link “Offer for students of all faculties”. All the other courses offered by the faculties can be found in the registration templates designed for individual fields of study. If you cannot see a link to a certain faculty, its registration period is probably not under way. How can I find out about the registration dates for my faculty? To access the list of courses offered by the whole of MU, click on “Offer for students of all faculties”. If you are looking for courses fitting your timetable, you might want to use the application enabling you to search for courses in faculty timetables (for further information, see Help).
- 18.I failed to register for the courses during the registration period, what am I supposed to do now?If you did not manage to register for the courses during the registration period, you can still do so during the enrollment one or the period of enrollment changes. If the teacher sent an e-mail to the students of the course before the course was enrolled, you will be informed by an automatic e-mail. E-mails are also automatically stored in the “Organizational Instructions” folder in the “Study Materials” of the subject.
- 19.Is there any way I can mark my favourite courses?Yes, there is. You can star your favourite courses after clicking on the course code (the star to mark the course with is located next the course name). You can star your favourite courses in other applications as well (for further information, please go to the Help section.
You can register for the starred courses easily using “Add starred courses” situated in the registration application, where you can also browse the courses starred by your Friends.

- 20.How do I register quickly?To avoid late registration (and thus failure to register for the course you want to attend), locate the course in the template and click on “try to register”. If you do so outside the registration period, your browser will display a page with an error message. By reloading/refreshing the page (using the “Refresh” button of your browser), you can have another try. Using this technique, you can register for the course immediately after the start of registration period. The registration batch allows you to prepare a list of the courses you would like to enroll in and consequently enables you to register for these with a single click. To prepare a registration batch, proceed as follows: Before the start of registration period, click on the reference “Prepare a registration batch” placed on the main registration page. Enter the codes of courses you want to register for and use “Specify” to display their full names. Select up to 10 courses by using check boxes on the left and click on “Use the courses selected”. The reference “Batch compiled. Try to register for ...” will appear. However, if you decide to prepare your registration batch long before the start, you can save the URL address of the page with your batch in your Favorites and return to it on the registration day.
I want to find out what the current IS time is because I want to be ready to register for courses at exactly 17:00. If you do not want to participate in the course hunt, you do not need to use this option, i.e. you can register for courses the regular way - by entering their codes or selecting them from a registration template. Using a registration batch, you only register for courses. To enroll in them, use the link “Automatic enrollment in the courses successfully registered for done during the enrollment period”.
