This specialized Bachelor’s study programme has been created to meet the rising requirements of the business environment which calls for graduates who are well prepared for going into practice, and which also calls for a closer link between schools and the needs of the public and private sectors.

The study programme is designed specifically as specialized Bachelor’s single-subject study programme providing its students with relatively comprehensive philological education in the given field, as well as with basic knowledge and skills in the fields that will help the graduates find better employment in the sphere of commerce. The graduates should be able to find employment mostly in higher administrative positions, where the stress is on general knowledge, etiquette, and a good knowledge of foreign languages. The studies are designed in a way that graduates should be able to carry out a large number of routine tasks independently, head business meetings over the phone as well as in person, communicate in written and oral Russian, take the minutes of meetings with foreigners, and translate and interpret less demanding texts. In contrast to the traditional philological studies offered at universities, a greater emphasis is placed on mastering practical language and on obtaining basic translation and interpreting skills. Most of the theoretical courses in the studies are propaedeutic and introductory. Apart from philological courses, the students obtain a basic knowledge of economy, law, social psychology, and basis computer skills.

Graduates should be able to find employment mostly in higher administrative positions, where the emphasis is on general knowledge, etiquette, and a good knowledge of foreign languages. The study programme will help graduates find employment primarily in companies that require a knowledge of the economy and its application into practice, as well as computer skills and foreign languages. Graduates could also be employed in the civil service, cultural organizations, or travel and holiday companies.

The standard duration of studies is six semesters. For admittance to the final state examination, students must obtain a minimum of 180 credits for type A/required, type B/selective, and type C/elective courses. Type A/required courses form the expert basis of the field and they amount to 132 credits – including credits in courses aimed to help students write their Bachelor’s thesis. Common courses for the Faculty of Arts (philosophy, physical education, and foreign language – 10 credits in total) are also type A/required. A 4-week practical training in institutions where the graduates can later find employment after the completion of their studies is also obligatory. Students complete this specialized practical training during the last year of their studies (6 credits). Students earn the remaining 32 credits by completing any course from the current offer of type C/elective courses for their study programme or for other fields. During the course of their studies, students should follow the study catalogue valid for their year of matriculation. The study catalogues for the individual years of matriculation are available at the Faculty of Arts website.

One part of the study programme is a compulsory four-week practical training in institutions where the graduates can later find employment. Students complete this specialized practical training during the last year of their studies after a consultation with the guarantor of their study programme.

Bachelor’s studies are concluded by a thesis defence (the main body of the Bachelor’s thesis has to contain at least 40 standard pages) and passing the final state examination. The Bachelor’s final state examination provides a comprehensive written and oral test of the knowledge obtained by completing the obligatory philological and other courses. The written exam consists of two parts: 1) practical knowledge of Russian (its general and specialized vocabulary, grammar, and orthography); and 2) a test of the basics of law and economy. It is obligatory to pass the written exam in order to be allowed to move on to the oral part of the exam. The oral exam is conducted in Russian and Czech and consists of two parts: 1) practical knowledge of Russian; 2) a complex test of orientation in Russian culture, history, and geography. The questions are based on set topics and literature.
