To qualify for the final state examination, students must earn a total of 180 credits for type A/required, type B/selective, and type C/elective subjects.

Major and minor studies are identical in the corpus of type A/required subjects. Apart from those, students will enrol in type B/selective subjects in their field and in other Romance fields. These may be completed with type C/selective subjects from the offer of the Faculty of Arts and other faculties.

During the course of their studies, students should follow the study catalogue valid for their year of matriculation. The study catalogues for the individual years of matriculation are available at the Faculty of Arts website.

The final state examination consists of: 1) the thesis defence (only for the major); and 2) an examination in the Catalan language and in Catalan culture and literature. For the exam of Catalan language, written work validates the practical knowledge of the language and oral work tests the knowledge and understanding of phonetics and phonology, morphology and syntax, focusing on linguistic norms. For the exam of culture and literature, an oral exam tests the knowledge of historical, cultural, and literary context regarding Catalonia and the Catalan-speaking countries.

After completion of the Bachelor's studies, it is possible to continue further studies in any Master's degree programme (after satisfying the admission requirements).
