After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:

• Graduates have acquired language skills in German at level B2/C1 and can use them efficiently in everyday communication
• Graduates can describe and explain the system of language in contrastive perspective
• Graduates can describe and explain the literary and cultural heritage of the German speaking countries, they have achieved text interpretation skills and understand fiction and non-fiction in appropriate contextual frame
• Graduates have practiced methodological training in teaching German as a foreign language that are appropriate for assistant teachers
• Graduates have achieved complex unversity education in the area of basic education, focused on teaching foreign languages

Skills graduates acquire in the fields of their Bachelor's studies provide them with full qualifications to work as assistant teachers of German at primary or lower secondary schools, or at language schools and in special and practical education. They can also take on jobs is free-time centres, in after-school clubs (specialized in language activities), or in public service or in the private sector, especially as experts equipped with high proficiency language skills.

The standard duration of the programme is six semesters. To be admitted to the final state examination, students have to gain 180 ECTS points from required, selective and elective courses.

Compulsory courses feature the basic professional knowledge and skills of the field of study. The structure and the requirements of required courses are identical in both programmes - German studies as a single field as well as in combination with other fields of study. In the Bachelor's degree, students are obliged to get 48 ECTS points for required courses (including practical language).

Selective courses are chosen by students according to their personal and professional preferences. There is a difference between programmes: students of German as a single field have to collect more ECTS points from selective courses than those who do German in combination with another field of study.

Remaining ECTS points should be collected from any courses that are currently open for inscription, both at the Department of German and in the whole of Masaryk University.

It is possible for students to compose their plan of study in each semester by themselves. However, there also is a recommendation for them to follow ("Recommended course of study") regarding especially the required courses. The recommendation can be found in the Study catalogues.

Classes in pedagogy and psychology as well as practical training at schools are included in teacher training at Bachelor's level (according to the Framework concept of teacher training for primary and secondary schools). The system of reflected practical training at schools is designed to prepare students for developing their teaching skills and to be able to fully perform the profession of assistant teacher.

Graduation requirements include completing all study requirements and passing the final state examination.

The Bachelor's exam consists of defending the Bachelor's thesis (if it is part of the given field of study) and passing the oral exam in the field of study in question.

The topic of the Bachelor's thesis can be located in any discipline belonging in the field of study, including the disciplines that are shared by all the individual programmes (pedagogy, psychology).

The final Bachelor's graduation examination consists of questions from linguistics, literature and history and the basics of methodology of German as a foreign language.

After completing the Bachelor's degree, students are invited to continue in the two-year Master's degree (Teacher of German as a foreign language at primary and lower secondary schools) at our department, or in other Master's degree programmes in education, philology or translation science at other faculties (see their requirements for entrance examinations).
